The Ponca City Lady Wildcats wrestling program enters the new season with momentum, hunger, and a growing foundation built on toughness and commitment. Head coach Richard Agee sees a group ready to take another step forward. “This year, we will have three seniors in the line-up. We return one State Qualifier. We have several freshmen who could get into the line-up. We will be a young team this year, but we have several girls who are tough. This program is getting better every year.”
One of the anchors of the lineup is junior standout Marli Arbona, a two-time state qualifier who continues to raise the bar for herself and her teammates. Last season, she claimed a regional championship, proving once again how dangerous she can be on the mat. Arbona spent the entire summer training relentlessly, lifting, running, and wrestling daily, to sharpen her skills and return with more focus than ever. Her leadership shines in everything she does, and her work ethic sets the tone for the entire team.
Senior Oakley Hunt brings grit, determination, and a strong academic drive to the program. Competing in one of the toughest weight classes, she has been an alternate for two straight years. Last season, she battled through an incredible eight matches in a single day, narrowly missing a state qualification. Hunt is known for her independence, drive, and resilience, and with college on the horizon, she aims to finish her senior season on a high note.
Freshman Heather Weaver is already turning heads as an emerging force. Selected to wrestle in Indianapolis two years in a row, she brings high-level experience and a tireless work ethic to the varsity room. Her potential to contribute immediately gives the Wildcats another exciting piece of the future.
Senior Vanessa Chavez adds inspiration and heart to the squad. After missing last season due to injury, she committed herself to daily rehab and strength training to return stronger than ever. Now fully prepared and determined, Chavez is ready to make her long-awaited impact in her final season.
With leadership, young talent, and a program trending upward, the Lady Wildcats enter the season eager to compete and continue their rise in Oklahoma girls’ wrestling.
