Under the bright lights of Stillwater High School’s soccer field, Lauren Phillips plays with a quiet intensity that’s impossible to ignore. A junior who moves seamlessly between forward, attacking midfield, and even center back, she isn’t defined by one position, she’s defined by her drive to compete.
“I like playing for the competition.”
That mindset has shaped her into a relentless presence on the field. Whether it’s a district rival or a non-conference matchup, Lauren approaches every game the same way: with the expectation to win. It’s not just about the scoreboard, it’s about pushing herself to meet the high standards she sets.
“It has taken a lot of belief and patience in myself to be successful, and a lot of hard work, because I’m hard on myself and expect a lot.”
That self-discipline shows up long before kickoff. Balancing school, training, and life requires careful time management, something Lauren has learned to master. Off the field, she credits key people who helped shape her mindset, including her seventh-grade history teacher.
“Mrs. Glentzer kept me going on days when it was hard.”
On the field, she thrives alongside teammates who match her competitive edge, especially Sophia Jahanshahi, who constantly challenges her to improve. Together, they’ve helped elevate the program to new heights, none bigger than her freshman year.
“The highlight of my soccer career has been winning the Stillwater Cup my freshman year because that was my favorite team, and we made program history.”
Still, Lauren’s motivation runs deeper than trophies. Growing up in Stillwater, she feels a strong connection to the community that’s supported her journey.
“It means a lot to represent my school and community because I’ve lived here all my life, and nothing would be possible without the people who have shaped me.”
That includes her biggest role model, her older cousin, who continues to inspire her daily.
“My cousin pushes me to be better every day.”
For Lauren Phillips, success isn’t just measured in wins. It’s built on resilience, support, and an unshakable love for the game.
