VYPE: What is your name, school, and grade?
Emmersyn: I attend Tonkawa High School, and I am in 10th grade. In track, I compete in the 4×200, 4×800, and 4×400 relays, as well as the open 400.
VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
Emmersyn: Winning state with my cousin, Reid, and placing in all four events.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher?
Emmersyn: Mrs. Jordan is my favorite teacher because she motivates me to work harder, supports me when I need help, and encourages me to be confident in who I am. She has made a positive impact on my learning and helped me become a better student.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
Emmersyn: My parents inspire me because they believe in me and push me to reach my full potential. They remind me that I can accomplish anything if I stay focused and keep trying. Whenever I feel unsure or frustrated, they help me stay positive and keep moving forward. My late grandpa, Steve Randall, also inspires me because he always made me laugh in stressful situations and was always proud of me.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Emmersyn: My cousin Reid Randall has left the biggest impression on me because we went through the same struggles and hard work it took to win state. We shared the challenges, long practices, and dedication needed to reach our goal.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
Emmersyn: Being part of something bigger than myself. I love being a Buccaneer and wearing that name with pride. It means even more because my grandpa took great pride in the school, and continuing that legacy motivates me to give my best and make my family and community proud.
VYPE: Who would you like to thank or give a shoutout to?
Emmersyn: I want to thank my coaches for supporting me and pushing me to do better, and my family for coming to my races and cheering me on.
VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?
Emmersyn: Sha’Carri Richardson, because she shows that no matter how many times you lose, if you keep trying, you can still win.
VYPE: How would you describe your role on the team?
Emmersyn: I bring accountability. I try to lead by example by showing up ready to work, doing my job, and holding myself to a high standard. I also help keep my teammates accountable because we all depend on each other to succeed.
