Ponca City Mom – Gabby Anderson – Presented by The Ponca City Real Estate Co.

Gabby Anderson knows that behind every high school athlete is a parent willing to go the extra mile. As a salon owner and hairstylist, Gabby balances running her business with cheering from the sidelines, traveling with her family, and investing in her son Benjamin’s athletic journey. Benjamin, a junior at Ponca City High School, is a three-year varsity soccer player and a former basketball and football player.

“I love cheering them all on!” Gabby says. “Most of this team has played together for years, and it’s like they’re all my kids!”

Her dedication extends far beyond game day. Gabby serves as president of the soccer booster club, having previously held roles as secretary and treasurer for basketball. She believes in doing whatever it takes to provide for the athletes, whether it’s snacks, meals, or warmups. “As parents, we should do everything we can to provide for the kids that don’t have everything they need to be successful athletes,” she explains.

Even with all her involvement, Gabby knows the toughest part of being a sports parent is maintaining a positive attitude. “I think the hardest part is trying to always stay positive for your athlete and his teammates,” she says. “They’re still teens, and they might not always play to their potential, but it’s our job to hug them, tell them to learn, and do better in the future.”

Gabby also emphasizes the importance of priorities. “Being a student is always the priority. We’ve always told our son if you take care of your studies, you can go anywhere. A coach will always want a player they don’t have to worry about with grades.”

Moving from Tulsa when Benjamin was a baby, Gabby and her family chose Ponca City for its smaller community and sense of connection. Over the years, they’ve found an extended family in the school, teammates, and other parents. “We have such an amazing village, and we all help each other with our kids. It’s like having a huge family,” she says.

Through booster meetings, fundraisers, and countless sideline hours, Anderson embodies the unwavering support and love that make student-athletes’ success possible. For her, it’s not just about the wins on the field, it’s about building a community, raising kids with strong values, and celebrating every step of their journey.
