Davenport Softball – Team Spotlight – Presented by COTC Connections

Continuity and chemistry are powerful ingredients, and Davenport High School’s slowpitch softball team brings plenty of both into the 2025–26 season. Under head coach Heather Gaylord, the Lady Bulldogs return their full roster from last year while adding six promising freshmen, creating a blend of experience and fresh energy that could make an immediate impact.

“I am excited about the upcoming 2025-26 slow-pitch softball season. We didn’t lose any players from last year and have added six talented freshmen this season. This team has proven that they love a challenge, and the mixture of older leadership and newer talent will help lead them to success. They play as a family, and as long as they continue to do so, we see only good things to come.”

That family-first mindset shows up in how Davenport approaches every inning. Senior leadership, anchored by players like Landry Miller, gives the team a steady foundation. A four-year starter, Miller has built a reputation for doing whatever the team needs, whether that means taking the mound or locking things down defensively. Her ability to deliver timely hits adds another layer of reliability to an already steady presence.

In the outfield, Charlie Adams continues to emerge as one of the team’s most dependable contributors. After an impressive freshman campaign that saw her hit .373 with 17 RBIs, Adams brings consistency at the plate and confidence in the field. Her growth from year one to now signals a player ready to take on an even larger role.
The infield will be anchored by junior Nevah Ray at shortstop, a player known for her range and instincts. If the ball heads to the left side, Davenport trusts Ray to make the play. Her offensive production only strengthens her value, making her one of the team’s most complete athletes.

Among the new faces, freshman Autumn Gaylord stands out for her attitude and versatility. Willing to play anywhere and focused on lifting her teammates, she embodies the culture Davenport is building.
With experience, depth, and a shared belief in each other, the Lady Bulldogs enter the season expecting to compete and to do it together.
