Stillwater’s Brittani Murray – Presented by Hideaway Pizza

There is a lot that goes into being a successful athlete, no matter what level you compete at. Brittani Murray is a senior at Stillwater High School and as a member of the softball team, she says that you have to believe in yourself even when others do not if you want to be your best.

“It takes a lot of hard work day in and day out,” she said. “There have been times when people doubted me, but I use that as motivation to work harder and be better.”

And that hard work that she has put in has paid off for her as Murray has committed to play softball at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Brittani has had a few people that have helped her become the athlete and person that she is today.

“I would say one of my biggest influences is Danielle Lawrie,” she said. “She spreads a very body-positive message and helps me build confidence as a pitcher. Another is my dad because he always pushes me to be my best. And also my former pitching instructor Gigi Wall because she’s the one that helped me develop my mechanics with pitching.”

Throughout her career, there have been numerous moments that have been great memories for Brittani. But she says one game in particular stands out as her favorite.

“I think the highlight of my career would be when I was pitching the third game of regionals against Union. It was the best game I’ve ever pitched and it was a much needed win for our team.”

As a student in the classroom, Murray has been taught by a number of different teachers. And she says that while she enjoyed a lot of their classes, there is one that she enjoyed the most.

“The teacher who had the biggest impact on my life is my former English and psychology teacher Mrs. Crow,” she said. “She always made me feel like I was good enough, and because she told me I was a good leader for a group in her class which I needed to hear to give me the push to be one for my school ball team.”

Along with playing softball, Murray is also a member of the Peer Partners, a club that helps special education students get involved in everyday activities and sports.
