Perry High School’s Hadley Howell – Track and Field Spotlight – Presented by Seth Wadley of Perry

There’s a quiet toughness to Hadley Howell’s approach, the kind that doesn’t always announce itself but shows up when it matters most. As a sophomore at Perry High School, she steps into the throwing circle for shot put and discus with a calm focus, then shifts gears to sprint in the 4×100 relay. It’s a balance of strength and speed, but more than anything, it reflects her willingness to do whatever the team needs.

Last season gave her a moment many athletes spend years chasing, competing at the state meet as a freshman. It wasn’t just about being there; it was about realizing she belonged.

“I am most proud of being able to experience state track as a freshman.”

That experience helped shape her perspective. Track, with its individual pressures and team dynamics, has pushed her to grow in ways that go beyond performance. Every throw, every race, every practice carries a lesson in persistence.

“My sport has taught me the drive and determination it takes to overcome the obstacles that come with any sport.”

Off the track, that same mindset is supported by people who keep her grounded. Her mom stands at the center of that support system, managing the chaos of daily life while never missing the details that matter most. At school, teachers like Mrs. Hofferber provide a different kind of impact, steady guidance, and a willingness to listen.

Her journey hasn’t been shaped alone, either. Teammates, especially from her travel basketball experience, have given her space to grow into herself, building confidence and lasting friendships along the way. That sense of connection carries over when she represents Perry, where progress feels just as important as results.

“My favorite part of representing my school is the amount of growth I have accomplished through my coach’s support.”

Through it all, one piece of advice continues to anchor her.

“You can only control yourself and how you react to others.”

It’s a simple idea, but one she carries into every competition. Whether she’s chasing a personal best or encouraging a teammate, Howell brings determination, energy, and a team-first mindset, qualities that continue to shape her path forward.
