The Stillwater Pioneers ended last season with a 27-9 record and fell just short of hoisting the Class 6A Baseball State Championship trophy last season, losing in the semifinals. As they enter a new campaign this season, head coach Mary Lees is looking for his squad to continue a high level of play.
“We are coming off of a season that saw us host and win a regional against the likes of defending state champions Bixby, we reached the 6A State Semifinals,” Lees said. “We’re returning six starters from last year’s team, and our newer varsity players have a lot of talent.”
One of the key players for the team this season will be Ethan Holliday. He is a senior shortstop and is projected to be a high first round pick in the Major League Baseball draft. He has committed to play ball at Oklahoma State University.
A senior pitcher and utility player, Isaiah Smith looks to be an impact player. He can play anywhere on the field and should see time in both the infield and outfield. At the plate, he is a consistent contact hitter with sneaky power and solid speed. He will be continuing his baseball career at NOC-Enid.
Senior Landon Sterling, who is a left handed pitcher and also plays first base, looks to be the team’s district starter on the mound. He should be a big contributor on both offense and defense.
Brady Holliday is a sophomore middle infielder who will play second base next to his cousin Ethan. He hit leadoff all of last season and is expected to return to that role. Brady has an excellent glove and is a contact hitter with an exceptionally high baseball IQ.
Seniors Parker Edwards and Jake Lees, along with junior Daniel Wulfert will also play roles for the team this season and look to help the team make another deep playoff run.
