Glencoe’s Miranda Morton – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Central Rural Electric Cooperative

On any given afternoon in Glencoe, you can find Miranda Morton moving with purpose, whether she’s calling plays as a point guard or crouched behind the plate, reading a batter’s every move. As a freshman, she’s already making a name for herself, but it’s not just her stats that stand out, it’s how she carries herself.

“I’ve learned to stay humble and be a leader.”

That mindset has shaped everything Miranda does. In softball, she earned 2nd Team All-Area honors as a freshman, a rare accomplishment that reflects both her skill and discipline. On the basketball court, she led her team in scoring, showing she can take control when it matters most. Still, she’s quick to credit others for her growth.

“My teammates are always lifting me up and helping me get out of my head.”

One teammate in particular, Alissa Hesser, has left a lasting impression. Miranda describes her as someone who always knows when others need encouragement, a steady voice in tough moments. That kind of support fuels the culture Miranda is proud to be part of.

Representing Glencoe means more than wins and losses. It’s about continuing something bigger than herself, something her coaches have built.

“We’re supposed to give our best to help grow the program and inspire more girls to join.”

Off the field, Miranda looks up to athletes like Ruby Meylan and Paige Bueckers, competitors who combine talent with character. That balance is something she strives for daily, guided by advice she keeps close.

“Don’t let your emotions get the best of you.”

It’s a lesson she applies in pressure moments, whether she’s stepping up to the plate or leading a fast break.
Behind her success is a strong support system, family, coaches, and teachers like Coach Sanders, who showed her the importance of respect and understanding.

As Miranda’s high school journey is just beginning, one thing is already clear: she’s not just building a career, she’s building a legacy rooted in leadership, humility, and heart.
