Stillwater’s Cooper Keys – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst Stillwater

Cooper Keys doesn’t measure progress by trophies alone. For the Stillwater High School freshman golfer, growth is something quieter, built in long summer days, steady swings, and a mindset that refuses to drift too far from center.

“I am most proud of the work I put in last summer. I improved a lot and saw my game grow.”

That growth shows in more than his scorecard. As a ninth grader, Cooper has already carved out a reputation as someone his teammates can rely on. Consistency, he believes, comes from controlling what you can and letting go of what you can’t, an approach that shapes both his game and his character.

“There are so few things that are truly in your control, so you need to make sure you do them to the best of your ability.”

Golf, often seen as an individual pursuit, has given Cooper something more, a sense of shared purpose. Practicing daily alongside teammate Tyler Robertson has pushed him to improve, while also reinforcing the value of learning from others.

“Tyler Robertson has left the biggest impression on me because we practice together every day, and we are always learning new things from each other.”

That team connection is what Cooper enjoys most about representing Stillwater. Even in a sport where each player stands alone over the ball, there’s a collective pride in wearing school colors.

Beyond the course, Cooper draws inspiration from one of golf’s greatest figures.

“Tiger Woods inspires me because he was always the hardest worker. Because of that, he was always the best, and that isn’t a coincidence.”

That same mindset carries into the classroom, where teachers like Mr. Sneed have left a lasting impression by making learning meaningful beyond textbooks.

Grounded by family support and driven by a clear perspective, Cooper Keys is building something bigger than a golf game, he’s building habits that last.

“Thank you to my parents and my entire family for always being eager to help me in anything I do.”
