Lance Arbona doesn’t chase recognition; he chases growth. At Ponca City High School, the senior has built his identity across three demanding sports: anchoring the line as a tight end in football, battling at 190 pounds on the wrestling mat, and holding it down at third base and on the mound in baseball. Each arena asks something different of him, but the standard he sets never changes.
That standard sharpened most during wrestling season, where Arbona earned a state qualification, an accomplishment that didn’t come easy. Wrestling stripped things down to effort, discipline, and resilience, forcing him to confront himself in ways few sports can.
“Do you wanna be average? Set yourself apart.”
That message from Coach Rolo stuck. It became less about winning and more about refusing to settle. Whether grinding through practice or pushing late into a match, Arbona learned to lean into discomfort rather than avoid it.
“To push through adversity and give everything you got all the time.”
That mindset extends beyond competition. Arbona credits Mr. Williams, a teacher who offered more than classroom lessons, for helping him grow personally and spiritually. Support like that grounded him, giving him perspective when things got tough.
He also draws inspiration from his grandfather, Jeff, a constant presence in spirit, reminding him what passion for sports really looks like. And when it came to teammates, few left a mark like Titan Callshim, whose work ethic and friendship raised the bar daily.
“Being able to compete in front of my friends and show them and other fans how much we work on mastering our craft.”
For Arbona, representing Ponca City isn’t just about wearing a jersey, it’s about showing the unseen hours behind every play. He admires athletes like Nick Suriano for that same quiet dedication, letting performance speak louder than words.
“Thank you, Mom and Dad, for giving me all the opportunities to be an amazing person and athlete. Thank you to all my coaches for pushing to be the best athlete I can be.”
As his high school career winds down, Arbona leaves behind more than stats. He leaves a standard, one built on effort, humility, and the refusal to be average.
