Cabrey Boland is only a sophomore at Tonkawa High School, but she already carries herself like a seasoned leader for the Lady Buccaneers. A three-sport standout in track, softball, and basketball, she juggles a full schedule of practices, competitions, and schoolwork while setting a standard of work ethic and faith for those around her. On the track, she competes in the 800, 400, the 4×800 relay, and anchors the 4×400 relay, while also pitching and playing utility in softball and running the floor as a shooting and point guard in basketball.
“I am motivated by a quote that my Nana and I came up with, R4H, meaning Run 4 Him. It reminds me to glorify God in all that I do. Also wanting to make my family proud is a huge motivation for me.”
Her family has played a major role in shaping who she is, both as an athlete and a person. She credits her mom, dad, and stepparents, Mikki and Ryan, with modeling hard work and the importance of mental health, giving her a strong support system to lean on through big moments and everyday challenges. That foundation is reinforced by teachers like Mrs. Guthrie, her fourth-grade teacher and the first at Tonkawa to show her what it means to go the extra mile for a student, even staying after school to help her understand.
Cabrey believes being coachable and trusting her coaches’ plans has been crucial to her success. She embraces the extra work and sacrifices, knowing that additional time invested is what helps her reach the next level. That mindset paid off in a big way last season, when the Lady Buc track team captured the first 2A girls track and field state championship in school history. She calls winning state her favorite memory, especially anchoring the 4×400 relay to secure the final points and break the meet record previously held by another Tonkawa relay.
“I always want to set a good example for younger Lady Bucs, and want people to remember my school and community in a positive way.”
A three-time state gold medalist and two-time all-district softball player, Cabrey balances it all with goal-setting, early-morning study sessions, and clear communication with teachers and coaches, always proud to compete as a Lady Buccaneer.
