Stillwater’s Libby Owen – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Community Credit Union

Libby Owen doesn’t chase attention on the field, and that’s exactly what makes her essential. As a junior left back for Stillwater High School, she operates in the spaces where games are quietly won, turning pressure into possession and defense into opportunity.

For Libby, soccer has never been a solo pursuit. It’s built on connection, trust, and the bond she shares with her teammates, many of whom she considers close friends. That connection fuels her effort in ways stats never could.

“My teammates motivate me because they’re some of my best friends, and I want to do the best for them.”

That team-first mindset shows up every time she steps onto the field. Whether she’s tracking back on defense or pushing forward to support an attack, Libby plays with a balance of discipline and belief. Confidence, she says, has been one of the most important parts of her growth, along with maintaining a positive mindset in high-pressure moments.

Her foundation comes from home. Watching her parents’ work ethic and the way they challenge her has shaped how she approaches both soccer and life. That same support system extends into the classroom, where one teacher in particular has left a lasting impression.

“Mrs. Warner still checks up on me to this day, even though she was my second grade teacher.”

Moments like that stick. They reinforce the idea that success is built over time, through consistent effort and meaningful relationships.

On the field, Libby’s favorite memories are tied to milestones shared with her team. Winning the Stillwater Cup her freshman year, marking the first time in school history, stands as a defining moment, one that set the tone for what was possible.

She also embraces challenges, especially when facing tough opponents like Union, where every win feels earned. In practice, she sharpens her skills against Madylen Aguilar, whose speed and intensity keep things competitive but lighthearted.

“Defense doesn’t always get the credit, but we’re always working hard and creating plays.”

Off the field, Libby stays involved in Beta Club, NHS, FCCLA, and SMAC, balancing it all by committing fully wherever she is. And through it all, representing Stillwater remains personal, because it’s home, and every game is another chance to give back to it.
