Perry’s Chloe Jones – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Seth Wadley Ford of Perry

By Olivia Jones

Perry High School junior Chloe Jones has become a driving force for the Maroon cheer program, not just because of her skill as a backspot, but also because of the attitude and energy she brings to her team every day. For Chloe, cheerleading is more than just about stunts and performances. It’s about representing her school with pride and supporting her teammates through every challenge.

“A huge motivator for me is pushing myself to be better for my teammates,” Chloe said. “Knowing people are counting on me pushes me to give 100%. I always want to represent my school with pride.”

Chloe credits much of her drive and determination to her mom, Sheila Jones, who has modeled the value of hard work and positivity. She also shouts out to her coach, Jeanna Browne, for her dedication and impact. She says Coach Browne works tirelessly to care for her athletes while balancing their busy schedules.

Cheer has demanded plenty of dedication from Chloe as well. She recalls her favorite memory coming from one of the toughest situations—when her team faced a season full of injuries and had to completely rework their routine hours before their annual showing. “Everyone was nervous,” Chloe said, “but we ended up performing our routine the best we ever had that year. It was very rewarding to see all the hard work pay off.”

Rivalries add to the excitement, and Chloe says she loves competing against Blackwell because it brings out her team’s best energy. In practice, she enjoys working against Essie Boschee, who always pushes her to cheer louder and work harder. Chloe also makes sure to recognize Alexis Richardson as one of the team’s most underrated contributors. “She doesn’t look for the spotlight, but our team couldn’t function without her,” Chloe said.

Beyond cheer, Chloe stays active in Youth and Government, Student Council, NHS, and NAHS. She looks up to Morgan Simianer as a role model in cheerleading and dreams of joining the Oklahoma State University cheer program someday.

For now, Chloe remains committed to her Perry teammates. She proudly lives out the team’s secret slogan, BSTMSE. “It’s an honor to bring pride to my school and to be part of something bigger than myself.”
