Perry’s Andrew Kukuk – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by First Bank and Trust Co.

Perry High School senior Andrew Kukuk has built an impressive athletic résumé, competing in football, wrestling, track, and baseball while excelling as both a student and a leader. On the football field, Kukuk plays running back and strong safety, where his toughness and work ethic set the tone for his team.

For Andrew, motivation comes from knowing that younger athletes in Perry are watching him. “Something that motivates me is being a role model to youth athletes in Perry that look up to me,” he said. He credits much of his growth to the coaches and older teammates who influenced him early in his career: “They taught me to always strive to do my best, not just for myself, but to help them succeed as well.”

One teacher who made a lasting impact is Coach Rupp, who reminded him that success isn’t handed out easily. “In his class, I learned that nothing is given, you have to work for more than just sports,” Andrew explained. That mindset has fueled his achievements, along with a strong belief in himself and in those who support him: “Believing in myself and everyone around me that believes in me has made a huge difference.”

Kukuk’s favorite career highlight isn’t one play or one win, it’s simply representing Perry. “The highlight of my career is just being able to play for Perry, knowing everyone here has my back and is always right with me,” he said.

Each season, the matchup he looks forward to most is the opener against Mannford: “It really sets the tone for the year, and so far I’m undefeated against them.” He enjoys competing alongside teammates like Gunnar Farrar, who constantly pushes him to improve, and he sees rising talent in Wyatt Carson, whom he calls “a player with a lot of potential.”

Beyond athletics, Andrew is active in Student Council and the National Honor Society, maintaining strong grades while juggling a demanding schedule.

When asked what it means to wear Perry’s colors, Andrew doesn’t hesitate: “It means a lot. Everyone here has supported me since my first start as a freshman, and I know they’ll continue to even after my high school career is over.”
