Oilton’s Karlie Kennedy – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shuterra Sports Field Management

There is something special about being an athlete at a small town school. There is a type of camaraderie throughout the community that may not be as evident at a larger school. Karlie Kennedy is a student athlete at Oliton High School and she says she is proud to wear her school’s colors when she competes.

“I love my school and my small town,” she said. “I have lived in Oilton my whole life and have always gone to Oilton Schools. I love playing in front of everyone that has watched me grow into the woman I am today. I will always bleed black and gold.”

Karlie is a junior at Oilton. She is a member of the softball, cross country, basketball, and track teams. She is also involved with the Student Council and Fish Club.

As an athlete in a few different sports, Kennedy knows what it takes to be successful.

“To get where I am today, it has taken hard work and trying my hardest to practice perfectly,” she said. “My biggest motivation would have to be trying to be the best version of myself. I think the highlight of my career would have to be competing and beating highly-ranked softball teams.”

While she puts in the extra time on her own, Kennedy enjoys practicing with her teammates because they all do a great job of making each other better.
“I love competing against my friends because we hold each other accountable and push each other,” Karlie said. “I think the underrated players on our team would have to be the freshmen. They don’t get much playing time, but continue to work hard and show up to practices.”

Kennedy has people in her life that she looks up to and have helped her become who she is today.

“My mother is the role model in my life,” she said proudly. “She is a very strong female influence in my life. An athlete that I look up to would be Jayda Coleman. She was an outstanding player and I play centerfield just like she did.”
