VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?
AJ: I am a sophomore at Perry High School and I am a member of the wrestling and softball teams.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
AJ: I think my favorite part about representing Perry is to show people that I wrestle for the team that holds the most state titles, and I plan to continue to try to keep the legacy.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?
AJ: It has taught me so much self discipline, and that if you truly want something in life you have to work so hard for it and it may not feel like it pays off at first but it eventually will.
VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
AJ: Winning state with my softball team my freshman year and being a two-time state qualifier for wrestling and placing third at state this year.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
AJ: Grace Byrd. She was my team captain my freshman year. She always worked hard and never gave up on anything. Her experience in wrestling showed me to never take it for granted because it could be taken from you anytime.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
AJ: My photography and sculpting teacher Mrs. Allred, because she always is there when you need her and makes sure you know she cares and sees things from all angles no matter what.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
AJ: I would go to the Bahamas and I would take my family to repay them for all the money they have spent on my stuff and all the time they skipped vacation because of my events.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?
AJ: yes I’m involved in yearbook, the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, I’m class vice president, and a student council sophomore chair.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
AJ: I want to thank my family for always taking me to all the extra practices and tournaments, and for always supporting me and showing up. I would like to thank my coaches for always pushing me and picking me up when I would fall, and for always believing in me in everything. And last I would like to thank my practice partner and teammates for always pushing me in practice and being by my side through all matches.
