STILLWATER PIONEERS

Coach: CHAD CAWOOD

10-3

OFFENSE

The Pioneers are coming off a solid season, going 10-3 and advancing to the Class 6A-II State Championship Game. As they enter the 2024 campaign, head coach Chad Cawood likes the makeup of his team and says they have the opportunity to have a great season. “We have a strong nucleus returning up front on both sides of the ball,” Cawood said. “With four returning offensive lineman and five of the top six returning in the defensive line and linebackers’ groups. With those groups and the return of Tan Booth, who has been a leader for our defense in the back end and a contributor at RB over the last two years, we’re excited about the potential of the 2024 season.” Cord Nelson (6-3, 275, Sr.), Enrique Sanchez (5-8, 250, Sr.), Judah Schwoelgler (6-4, 275, Sr.), and Julian Jacobs (6-2, 240, Jr.) are the guys returning to dominate at offensive line. They are not afraid to be physical and keep the defense out of the backfield. One of the skill players that will be working to find the end zone is wide receiver Deakon Jones (6-1, 180, So.). He started in four games last season and finished with 382 receiving yards and two scores. Jones played a big role last season and will do the same this season. He will be joined at wide receiver by freshman David Thomas. The Pioneers landed transfer quarterback is Mason Schubert (6-3, 200, Sr.) from Morrison. Last season, he passed for 1,684 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also adding 619 yards on the ground and five scores. Over the season, he also completed 11 two-point conversion passes.

DEFENSE

The Pioneers’ tough and physical defense gave up an average of just 18 points per contest last season. With a number of those players returning means that this group has the opportunity to have another successful season. Athan Nickles (6-1, 196, Sr.) and Ethan Dudgeon (5-10, 185, Sr.) will be back at linebacker. Last season, Nickels had 119 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and an interception and Dudgeon had 101 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a fumble recovery. Splitting time between linebacker and defensive end will be Caleb Humble (6-2, 235, Sr.), who tallied 95 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks a year ago. In the secondary, Tan Booth (5-10, 175, Sr.) will be a leader on the defense in his third year as a starter. He had 109 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, one interception, and a fumble recovery last year and he will monitor things and keep the opponent’s big plays to a minimum. On the defensive line, Nehemiah Kolone (6-4, 255, Jr.) and Schwoegler will anchor a defensive line that will work to wreak havoc on their opponents. Last year, they combined for 115 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks. Assistant coaches for the Pioneers this season are Charlie Johnson, Mason Myers, Jake Gray, Leonard Jones, Jared Noles, Randy Patzkowski, Dan Nickles, Jeremy Hughes, Derrick Anderson, Julius Talley, and Kenny Tuck
