PERKINS-TRYON DEMONS

Coach: DAWAYNE HUDSON

11-2

OFFENSE

The Demons had an outstanding season a year ago and they do not expect this season to be much different. They are looking to make another deep postseason run and head coach Dawayne Hudson thinks his squad has what it takes. “We are coming off a state semi-final run, and we are looking to reload and continue raising the bar,” Hudson said. “We will be young in spots but will rely on a few key returners to help lead the way. We bring back our best offensive lineman, sack leader, and second-leading rusher to help guide us this season.” The Demons bring back Braiton Applegate (6-0, 185, Sr.), who has registered 1,200 career rushing yards and is expected to add to that number this season. Coach Hudson says that Applegate makes a big impact whenever he steps onto the field. “Braiton is a four-year starter,” he said. “He is a 1,000 yard back on offense and an absolute terror rushing the quarterback on defense. He was our sack leader last season.” He will be joined in the backfield by Wyatt Atkinson (5-10, 170, Jr.), who had 676 yards and nine scores last season. The offensive line will be anchored by two outstanding guys. Corbin Reedy (6-3, 250, Sr.) is a three-year starter and Malachi Brandon (5-9, 250, Sr.) is a two-year starter and both should have much success this season.

DEFENSE

The Demon defense had a stellar season a year ago, allowing their opponents to average just nine points per game. This season, they will work to continue to play strong and physical and cause problems for the opposing quarterback. Applegate will be a strong force at linebacker. Last season, he totaled 8.5 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, and 36 hurries on the quarterback. Up on the front line, Ethan Anderson (6-4, 205, Jr.) will be at defensive end and working to be a problem for opponents. Patrolling the secondary will be Karsen Houston (5-10, 170, Sr.) and Atkinson. They are both solid athletes and competitors and will look to keep their opponents’ big plays to a minimum. Assistant coaches for Perkins-Tryon this season are Bryce Hoggatt, Lance Hoggatt, Ethan Caldwell, Aaron Barta, Brian Archer, and Hunter Hines.
