VYPE: What first drew you to golf?
Nikki Pitts: What first got me into golf was my grandma, who coached at OSU, so I’ve been around the game for a long time.
VYPE: What’s been the biggest turning point in your development as a golfer?
NP: The biggest turning point was when I stopped focusing on perfection and started focusing on consistency. That mindset shift helped me improve a lot faster and enjoy the game more.
VYPE: What separates good golfers from great ones at the high school level?
NP: I think it’s short game and mental toughness. Most high school players are able to hit the ball well but struggle around the green. They do not understand how important short game is and do not prioritize it in practice.
VYPE: Who has had the biggest impact on your growth, and how?
NP: My grandma has definitely had the biggest impact on my growth. Since she coached at OSU, she’s taught me so much about the game, not just technically but mentally too.
VYPE: What’s one moment in your high school career that you’ll never forget?
NP: One moment I’ll never forget is winning state at Stillwater Country Club. Being able to accomplish that with my team made it so much more special, and it’s something I’ll always be proud of. It really showed how all of our hard work paid off.
VYPE: What’s an underrated skill in golf that casual fans might overlook?
NP: Course management is really underrated. Knowing where to miss and how to play smart can make a huge difference in your score.
VYPE: How has golf shaped you outside of competition?
NP: Golf has taught me patience, discipline, and how to handle pressure. Those are things that carry over into everyday life, not just on the course.
VYPE: What goals are pushing you this season?
NP: This season, I’m focused on improving my consistency and lowering my scores. I want to keep growing and be someone my team can rely on.
VYPE: When your high school career is over, what do you hope people remember about you as a golfer?
NP: I hope people remember me as someone who worked hard, stayed positive, and gave everything I had every time I played.
