Blackwell’s Matthue Mooring – Presented by Bancfirst Blackwell

High school athletes invest a lot of time and effort into becoming the best that they can be. Not only do they want to excel in their sport, but they also want to compete hard for the name on their uniform.

“It means a lot to be able to represent Blackwell, especially our basketball program,” said Matthue Mooring. “A ton of dedication and sacrifice has played a part into what has been built for us players.”

Mooring is a senior at Blackwell High School. Along with basketball, he is also involved in track. Outside of sports, he is part of the Student Bank Board and Yearbook.

There have been people throughout his life that have been influential to Mooring and the person he will become.

“Someone who has made a big impact on me is my Coach Terril Hankins,” he said. “He has always put me in the right situation to succeed and I’m grateful for the past three years with him. Another person who has impacted me is my mom, Melisa Cottle. She’s always been my number one supporter through everything. A teacher that has influenced me is Coach Jacobs. He only taught here for a year but I felt as if I could connect with him over basketball more than others.”

Matthue says that his teammates have also helped him become a better basketball player and person.

“A teammate that has had the biggest impact on me has been Kevin Rios,” Mooring said. “The way he takes a serious approach to the game of basketball like I have has brought me and him together.”

Throughout his career, Mooring has made a lot of memories with his teammates. But he says that there is one personal accomplishment that stands out the most for him.
“My favorite moment was when I scored my first varsity points against Perry my sophomore year,” Matthue stated.

Like most other athletes, Matthue wants to be successful. But he knows that along with being successful in sports, he has to also be successful in the classroom.

“For me, it takes a ton of focus and effort to be able to manage different activities at once,” he said.
