2026 Blackwell Maroons Football Preview – Presented by BancFirst Blackwell

After a challenging 0-10 campaign in 2025, the Blackwell Maroons enter a new era with head coach Chad Slane taking over the program. In his first year at the helm, Slane brings a fresh approach and renewed energy, focused on building a competitive culture and laying a foundation for long-term success.
With a core group of returning juniors, the Maroons are looking to grow together and take meaningful steps forward this fall. Quarterback Tanner Ward will guide the offense, bringing experience and leadership to a unit aiming to become more dynamic. Ward’s ability to distribute the ball and manage the game will be key as Blackwell looks to establish consistency.
Playmakers Landry Anderson and Gage Backus provide versatility in the backfield and on the perimeter. Anderson, who can line up at both wide receiver and running back, gives the Maroons flexibility in how they attack defenses, while Backus adds a physical presence to the ground game. Up front, senior Grant Hale anchors the offensive line, providing stability and leadership in the trenches.
Offensively, Blackwell plans to emphasize movement and adaptability. By utilizing motion and shifting formations, the Maroons aim to create favorable matchups and exploit space. The focus will be on identifying advantages, whether through numbers or positioning, and capitalizing on them with a balanced approach.
Defensively, the Maroons are adopting an aggressive mindset. The scheme will feature multiple looks, designed to keep opponents off balance without overcomplicating responsibilities. By playing fast and applying consistent pressure, Blackwell hopes to dictate the tempo and force mistakes.
The combination of new leadership and a developing roster creates a sense of optimism around the program. While the win-loss column may not change overnight, the emphasis on effort, execution, and growth signals a team committed to improvement. With a full offseason to implement a new system and a group of athletes eager to compete, the Maroons are focused on taking the next step and establishing a more competitive identity in 2026.
