At Blackwell, fastpitch softball is entering a season that feels less like a rebuild and more like a genuine opportunity to turn the corner.
The program, guided by second-year head coach Kenzie Ward, is coming off a 14-21 campaign and believes that renewed confidence, improved chemistry and a stronger competitive edge can transform that record into something far more impressive.
This group is built around athletes who are willing to do whatever it takes to compete, push each other and raise the level of play, and that mindset fuels optimism for a standout year. Senior leader Nina Glass is at the heart of that vision. Her presence in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom sets a daily standard and her ability to slide between the outfield and infield gives Blackwell valuable defensive flexibility. She is a true utility weapon who embraces any role asked of her without hesitation, and her influence on younger teammates is critical to the team’s growth.
Junior third baseman Alexis “Lexi” Landwehr embodies toughness and adaptability, having accepted a position switch last season and quickly turning it into a strength. Her performance at the plate, where she has emerged as one of Blackwell’s most reliable hitters in big moments, underlines her importance to the offense. Freshman second baseman Tylee Rowe offers an exciting glimpse of the program’s future with a high softball IQ and natural instincts rarely seen in a first-year player. She consistently makes plays that elevate the entire infield and pairs her competitive drive with an upbeat, energetic personality that keeps the dugout loose.
Beyond the stat sheet, character is a defining trait of the roster, and few represent that better than Arie Tanner. Selfless to the core, she is the kind of teammate who will literally give the shirt off her back, as she once did at regionals when a teammate forgot her uniform top. Her daily approach, focused on being part of something bigger than herself, has helped shape a team culture rooted in positivity, effort and respect.
With senior leadership, emerging stars and a clear commitment to playing as one, Blackwell enters the season intent on converting potential into wins and proving this group can deliver a memorable run.
