Haley Crowder has always admired the impact great teachers can have. Today, she channels that same inspiration into her own classroom at Ponca City High School, where she teaches Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 to primarily freshmen and seniors. Now in her third year at the high school, Crowder has quickly become known for her positive attitude, student-first approach, and willingness to go the extra mile, both in and out of the classroom.
Before joining the high school staff, Crowder began her career teaching at Trout Elementary, where she spent one year learning the foundations of classroom management and instruction. Moving to Ponca City High School allowed her to expand her reach and connect with students at pivotal stages in their academic journeys.
In addition to teaching math, Crowder also serves as the school’s student council advisor, a role that allows her to help students develop leadership skills and find their voice within the school community. She says seeing students “grow and achieve their goals over time” is the most rewarding part of her job.
Her teaching philosophy is simple but powerful: “See the best in everyone, in every moment.” It’s a mindset that guides her interactions and helps foster a welcoming environment where every student feels capable of success. Crowder credits two of her own former teachers, Ben Steichen and Christi Hook, for shaping her belief in the power of encouragement and authentic connection.
Outside the classroom, Crowder enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, dogs, and goats. Whether it’s working with animals or enjoying the Oklahoma countryside, she values the balance that time spent outside provides after a busy week of teaching and advising.
As she completes her third year at Ponca City High School, Crowder continues to model kindness, consistency, and care, qualities that not only define her teaching but also the positive legacy she’s building in the lives of her students.
