For many families, high school athletics are a meaningful part of life, but for the Stafford family, they are woven into the fabric of every week, every schedule, and every car ride across Ponca City. At the center of it all is a mother who balances it with steady purpose and a big heart. Married to her husband, Matt, for 20 years, she has supported their daughters, Mallorie and Maddie, through busy seasons, early mornings, and countless hours on the road, all while working as a paralegal for Todd R. Burlie, a local attorney in Ponca City.
Her daughters have carved their own unique paths. Mallorie, a junior at Ponca City High School, plays golf for the Wildcats, serves as the Vice President of FFA, and competes in barrel racing outside of school. Maddie, a freshman, contributes to both varsity softball and varsity basketball while also playing travel softball year-round. With that level of activity, life moves fast, but their mom wouldn’t have it any other way.
For her, staying involved starts with something simple: showing up. From long car rides to and from practices, to listening after tough days, to talking through ways to grow and improve, she believes those small moments build trust and connection. “I’m their biggest fan,” she says, “and I love watching them in anything they do.”
But being a sports mom isn’t without challenges. Balancing academics, rest, and social time can be its own juggling act. Maddie thrives on the extra work and workouts, while Mallorie would barrel race full-time if given the chance. Helping both girls maintain balance and avoid burnout is one of the toughest but most important parts of the role.
She also believes strongly in setting goals, respecting coaches, being a good teammate, and giving full effort, values she works hard to model. Her involvement extends beyond cheering from the stands as she serves as Treasurer for the Diamond Club and supports every activity her daughters pursue.
Away from athletics, the family is active at Central Baptist Church, and she serves as the Mom Officer/Treasurer for the 2025–2026 Pepperettes. What she loves most about Ponca City High School is the genuine support from teachers, staff, counselors, and coaches, people who show up, invest, encourage, and help students chase their dreams.
