JONES LONGHORNS
Coach: John White
Record: 18-12
OUTLOOK
Coming off a season that ended in the Area Consolation Finals, the Jones Longhorns are locked in and ready to make another deep postseason push under head coach John White, now in his first year at the helm. With a solid core of veterans and a promising group of underclassmen, the Longhorns bring a balance of experience, talent, and hunger into the 2024-25 campaign.
“Jones will lean heavy on the experience of senior guards Acyn Hansen, Cohen Gaul, and Carlos Hardeman early in the season but look for the underclassmen to step up into big roles throughout the season,” said White.
Leading the charge is senior point guard Acyn Hansen (5-11), the team’s definition of a floor general. “Acyn is the type of guard that everyone wishes they had to lead their team, and hates to see him on the schedule,” said White. “He is the definition of a leader, winner, and gamer who thrives in pressure situations.” Hansen averaged 11 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game as a junior and will take on an even larger scoring role this season.
Fellow seniors Cohen Gaul (5-10) and Carlos Hardeman (6-4) bring valuable experience and scoring ability to the backcourt, while Skyler Carpenter (5-11, Sr.) adds depth and leadership on the perimeter.
The Longhorns’ underclassmen are expected to make a major impact this year, with Caleb Campbell (5-10, Jr.), Eli Newby (6-3, So.), and Tristan Danker (6-1, So.) all poised for breakout seasons. “Names to know include junior Caleb Campbell, sophomore Eli Newby, and sophomore Tristan Danker,” said White.
White also praised Newby for his development and dedication. “Newby has made a huge jump from freshman to sophomore year and is ready to contribute in a big way,” said White. “Standing at 6-3, Eli is a sharpshooter who is constantly in the gym growing in all areas.”
Rounding out the deep Jones roster are Wyatt Ellefson (6-5, So.), Kohlson Lindsey (6-2, So.), and Michael Berry (6-0, Jr.), each expected to provide key minutes.
With senior leadership, sharp-shooting underclassmen, and a determined mindset, White believes this Longhorn squad has what it takes to compete with anyone.
