Bristow’s Chris Doremus – Football Spotlight – Presented by Dustie Sartain Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance Agent

Chris Doremus will soon be a senior at Bristow High School. He participates in football, powerlifting, track and field, tennis, educational talent search, and JOM. Chris has been playing football for nine years, getting his start from watching games with his father on the weekends. His favorite part about football is the brotherhood. “I love the craziness and experiences I have had with my teammates over the years,” he says. The highest moment in his football career so far was when his team beat Mannford his junior year 49-6.  He had 10-11 knock down/pancake blocks which helped them win the game and the Battle of the Boat trophy.

Chris’s biggest positive impacts have been his parents. He says “My parents have always supported all of my athletic goals and dreams.  They always made sure I was at practice and held me accountable for my actions.” His biggest role models have been two of his coaches, Scott Hall and Brett Jones, because Coach Hall is extremely hard working and makes sure his players are taken care of, and Coach Jones because he taught Chris how to be man of integrity, humility, selflessness, and brotherhood.

In his free time, Chris likes to play guitar, lift weights, and hang out with friends and family. His favorite subject in school is English because he likes to explore new genres and perspectives, and it allows him to express himself. His favorite teacher is Joel Manfredi, because he inspired Chris to become a better writer and showed him a new passion for the classics. After high school, Chris plans to attend and play football at NSU while pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts.

Sports have taught Chris how to follow instructions, be coachable, always give it his all, show up early, not to take short cuts, and how to be disciplined. Advice that he has for his fellow students is not to limit yourself to one sport or position.  “Being versatile will help you in different aspects of your main sport or position,” he says.
