Ponca City Lady Cats – Softball Team Preview – Presented by Equity Bank

After finishing 2024 with an impressive 25-9 record, the Ponca City Lady Cats enter the 2025 season with high expectations and a strong returning core. Head coach J.T. Freeman, who has built a consistent and competitive program, returns six starters and a lineup filled with experience, talent, and leadership.

Leading the charge is senior Audrey Varner, a standout catcher and one of the team’s most complete players. Known for her leadership behind the plate and presence in the batter’s box, Varner put up a .345 batting average last season with an impressive 1.013 OPS. She added 9 doubles, 4 home runs, and 26 RBIs, and is expected to be a major offensive catalyst again this year.

Senior Mash’ta Littlecook brings a smooth glove and a powerful bat to the infield. As the team’s second baseman, she posted a .390 batting average with a .986 OPS, 10 doubles, a home run, and 18 RBIs last season. Her consistency at the plate and ability to spark momentum make her a key component of the Lady Cats’ success.

At shortstop, Ja’Kiya Colbert is another senior with game-changing abilities. She brings speed and power, finishing 2024 with a .273 average, .918 OPS, 3 home runs, 20 RBIs, and an eye-catching 21 stolen bases. Her quickness and instincts on the basepaths add another layer to the team’s offensive threat.

In the circle, Ava O’Neill returns as the team’s ace. The senior pitcher compiled a 9-3 record with one save last season. In 94 innings pitched, she struck out 80 batters while walking only 20 and maintained a strong 2.45 ERA. Her leadership and energy set the tone for the team’s competitiveness every day.

With experienced veterans and depth across the field, the 2025 Ponca City fastpitch squad is poised for another successful run. Armed with pitching strength, offensive firepower, and a tightly bonded core of seniors, the Lady Cats have their sights set on an even deeper postseason push.
