Blackwell’s Carter Barriger – Presented by Tom Henley Shelter Insurance

Carter Barriger is a senior at Blackwell High School. He participates in baseball, NHS, and is a representative in Student Council. Carter got his start in sports from his parents. They signed him up for T-ball around 14 years ago and has been loving baseball ever since. His favorite parts about baseball are the friends that he’s made along the way and and the lifelong bonds that he’s made with different people. He’s even won the 84th Maroon Spirit award; the highest honor that a senior can win.

Carter’s biggest positive impact has been his parents. “They have sacrificed so much for me and have pushed me to where I am today. Without them, none of this would be possible,” he says. His biggest role model is his lord and savior Jesus Christ. “He is the one that has given me this beautiful opportunity to live the life that I have,” Carter says.

His favorite subject in school is science because of his interest in learning about how things are created. His favorite teacher is Mr. Doug Williams. “He gave the best advice and would always help you when you needed it,” Carter says. After high school, Carter plans to study in college to be an ICU RN, eventually to become a flight nurse. In his free time, he collects baseball cards and goes fishing.

Sports have taught Carter how to be a better person, how to use words of encouragement, and to take advantage of advice wether it’s about baseball or life in general. To be a great athlete, he says that it takes hard work, dedication, and sacrifices.what motivates Carter is his gratitude for waking up in the morning. He’s thankful to get one more day to give it his all. His advice to his fellow athletes is to never take things for granted. “Any moment could be your last, so play as hard as you can and leave it out on the field every single day,” he says.
