Cleveland’s Tycee Downey – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Central Rural Electric Cooperative

Cleveland High School sophomore Tycee Downey is a multi-sport athlete, participating in both basketball and track. For her school team, Tycee is a post and on her travel team, she is a shooting guardian and power forward. Tycee proclaimed, “I actually play all five quite a bit. My favorite position is shooting guard.”
Many would consider Tycee a veteran at sports. Tycee elaborated, “I have played basketball for 10 years, and I have run track for 5 years, however, last year was my first year at Long Jump.”
Tycee is product to represent her school and community as a student athlete. Tycee stated, “Surrounded by coaches, teachers, and a community I have learned from, I hope that when I play, people see a kind, hardworking girl who loves Jesus.”
Positivity is something that Tycee enjoys surrounding herself in. Tycee explained, “The best is always in front of you.”
As far as role models, Tycee looks up to multiple. Tycee stated, “Some of my biggest influences/ role models are my parents and my teammates as well as my coaches. They have pushed me to be where I am now and have help me in many ways. I have many famous role models as wellbeing Caityln Clark. Cameron Bring, Amelia Mielke, and Jordy Bahl. All of these people make me want to keep going and want to get better even if I have never met them.”
In addition to participating in basketball and track at Cleveland High School, Tycee is involved in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, as well as being a member of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

After graduating from high school, Tycee plans on pursuing higher education, as well as wanting to continue playing sports. Tycee stated, “After graduating from high school, I plan to attend college, hopefully on a basketball and/or track scholarship. I want to go into the medical field to become either a pediatrician or an athletic trainer.”
