NEWKIRK TIGERS

Coach: CHRISTOPHER GREEN

1-9

OFFENSE

Last season was a tough one for the Newkirk Tigers. They are ready to start this season with a clean slate and new excitement. Christopher Green is in his first season leading the program and he likes the makeup of his team and looks for them to make progress this season. “We are returning nine players with varsity experience from last season and have put together a great coaching staff with lots of knowledge and experience,” he said. “We as a coaching staff look for this to be a building year for us, not a rebuilding year. We are looking forward to seeing a few players step into key roles for us this year, and we are excited to see the team compete at the high level we know they are capable of.” On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers have some solid skill players that will play big roles in the team’s success. Shay Brewington (6-1, 165, Sr.) will be back at running back after rushing 80 times for 361 yards and three touchdowns a year ago. Also looking to step up and play a bigger role at running back is Blake Stowe (6-0, 160, Jr.). He ended last season with 13 carries for 51 yards and a score. On the outside, the Tigers have a pair of wide receivers that are hoping to make big contributions this season. Colton Mills (5-10, 150, Sr.) and Brady Olfield (5-9, 140, Sr.) combined for 130 receiving yards and a touchdown last year and will look to increase those numbers this season. Green has another player on his team that he looks for big things from this season. “Tripper Ramey will be a leader for us this year,” he said. “He will step into a key role on our offense, and we look forward to watching him excel in this new role. Tripper’s favorite thing about playing football is working as a team towards a common goal and competing against other athletes.”

DEFENSE

The Tiger defense had a tough time slowing down their opponents last season, allowing them to score an average of 36 points per game. They will try to lower that average by slowing down their opponents and getting to the ball. Leading the charge will be a stout group at the linebacker position. Lane Stone (5-11, 180, Sr.), Mills, and Stowe combined for 125 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble last year and they will work to continue to cause problems for the opponents. Up front on the defensive line, Breck Ailey (6-2, 230, Sr.) and Jake Spottedbear (5-11, 185, So.) will work to wreak havoc and cause disruptions. Last season Ailey ended the year with 47 tackles, and a forced fumble, while Spottedbear had 17 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Olfield had 28 tackles and an interception at free safety last season, and he will look to increase those numbers this year. Assistant coaches on Green’s staff this season are Roger Green, Chase Johnston, and DJ Bishop.
