The goal to be great at something comes with a cost. You have to be willing to invest a lot of time and effort and always work to improve yourself and your abilities. Kamden Bray knows what it takes and works hard to keep her eye on the prize.
“I have given many hours into softball to be successful,” she said. “I’ve missed things with friends, family gatherings, and school events. I’m motivated by the desire to be perfect. I understand that I will never be perfect, but by working towards perfection I’m able to strengthen my abilities and mindset. It allows me to know my limits.”
Bray is a senior at Stroud High School, where she plays softball and basketball. She has made a lot of memories during her high school career, but she has one that stands out as her favorite.
“I think the highlight of my career was going to Super Regionals last year,” she said. “While we may have lost out, I made so many memories in that one day that I’ll never forget. It was also the last time I was able to play with that year’s seniors.”
Along with putting in the hard work to get better, Bray also enjoys competing and having fun with her teammates. She says that as a pitcher, she and her catcher have fun competitions during practices.
“I enjoy working against my fellow senior Carly DeLeon,” she said. “Even though she’s my catcher, it’s still fun to have a little bit of competition going between us. Whether that be who can hit the ball farther and harder, field the most balls, or run faster to the dugout, there is always a little bit of competition between us.”
Teachers have had an influence on her life and helped Kamden become who she is today.
“All of my teachers, past and present, have had an impact on me,” Bray said. “However, I’ve had a few teachers make a big impact on my life. First, my middle school teacher Mrs. Chestnut taught me English, Geography, Reading, and Writing. She is the reason why I love to read in my spare time. Another is my current English teacher Mrs. McDoulett. She is phenomenal at what she does. She’s helped me become a better writer, presenter, and student. Finally, I have Mrs. Chace. She is my current Science teacher and has kept me honest and she pushes me to be a better student.”
