Q&A with Davenport’s Grant Powell – Coach Spotlight

VYPE: This is your first year leading the Bulldogs’ football program. What made you want to take this job?

Powell: Davenport has a proud football tradition, and the community’s passion for football is incredible. The opportunity to step into a leadership role and help guide these young men toward success, on the field and in life, was something I couldn’t pass up. I’m excited to build on what’s already been established and push our program to new heights.

VYPE: What do you see as the potential for this program in the future?

Powell: Davenport already has a proud tradition, and I believe we can build on that foundation to compete at a high level year after year. My goal is to develop not just great athletes, but great young men who succeed not only on the field, but in the classroom and in life.

VYPE: How does your program help players who hope to play at the next level?

Powell: We prepare our guys for the next level by developing their skills, strength, and football IQ, while also stressing academics and character.

VYPE: What values do you try to instill in your players, both on and off the field?

Powell: We build our program on accountability, toughness, and teamwork—values that make our players successful on the field and in life.

VYPE: How would you describe your team, and what are you most proud of when it comes to your players?

Powell: We’re a bunch of hardworking, blue-collar, gritty dudes that want to compete. They support each other and represent Davenport with pride.
