Mannford Lady Pirates – Softball Team Preview – Presented by Results Physical Therapy

Coming off an impressive 24-8 record in 2024, the Mannford Lady Pirates are gearing up for another competitive season under the leadership of Head Coach Russell Wood. While the team will feel the absence of Charleigh Hewitt, a key player at third base and an important offensive contributor, the returning roster is loaded with talent and experience, promising a bright future.

Coach Wood emphasizes that despite losing Charleigh, the team’s core remains intact, with players who have matured under a new system and understand the high expectations set for them. Central to the team’s success will be the players “up the middle,” including Cambri Casey, Jayden Jenkins, Emma McCrackin, Brooke Kyser, and Carlee Maxville. These athletes are expected to lead both vocally and by example, maintaining positivity through challenging situations.

Senior catcher Jayden Jenkins brings strong defensive skills behind the plate and a powerful bat, showing potential for collegiate play. Sophomore Cambri Casey, the reigning 4A District 5 Player of the Year, dazzled last season with a .536 batting average, nine home runs, and an outstanding pitching record, highlighting her versatility and competitive spirit. Junior shortstop Brooke Kyser is a steady, reliable force known for her consistency and game intelligence, and Coach Wood anticipates a breakout season for her after dedicated offseason training.

Adding to the mix is freshman Bella Gilbert, a versatile infielder capable of playing third base, shortstop, and second. Bella is poised to compete for the crucial third base spot vacated by Hewitt’s graduation and could become a vital middle-of-the-lineup hitter.

With a tough conference ahead, success will depend on every player embracing their role, whether starter or supporting cast. Coach Wood praises his team’s toughness and commitment and expects their unity and grit to fuel another strong season for the Lady Pirates.
