Each of us has someone in our life that has helped us become the person we are and the person we will become. These role models serve as examples for us to look up to. Evie Ools has some outstanding people in her life that she is thankful to have as role models.
“My mom is the biggest influence on my life,” she said. “She is so good at what she does. My softball coaches also influence me by pushing me to work harder and be better even on bad days.”
Ools is a junior at Drumright High School. She plays softball and basketball for the Tornados. Outside of sports, she is a member of the National Honor Society.
Just like all other athletes, Evie has had to invest a lot of time and hard work into becoming the athlete that she is. But along with the work, she says that there is more to being successful.
“You have to be willing to try new things,” she said. “And you have to be able to accept that every play won’t go your way. One of my biggest motivations is achieving the goals that I have set for myself.”
The teammates that she competes alongside each season are a solid group that she is proud to play with.
“I enjoy working with Kaiton Vann because she is always very competitive and fun to play against in practice,” she said. “One of our more underrated players would be Addy Ingram. She is very competitive in left field and always eager to go catch a fly ball so she deserves more recognition.”
As a student in the classroom, Evie has had the opportunity to learn from a number of outstanding teachers. But she has one teacher that she looks to as her favorite.
“The teacher who has had the biggest impact on my life is Coach Loyd,” she stated. “He’s someone who’s always been there for me and supported me and helped me learn how to be more confident.”
When it comes to opponents, Ools and her teammates are ready to play whoever is on the schedule. But she says she has one team that she enjoys beating more than the others.
“I enjoy beating Depew because they’re a team we struggle against,” Evie said. “So it feels good when we beat them.”
