Depew Hornets – Football Team Preview

DEPEW HORNETS

Coach: JACOB DYE

1-10

Offense
The Depew Hornets enter the 2025 season with renewed energy and optimism following a challenging 2024 campaign. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jacob Dye, the Hornets return a core group of versatile playmakers who gained valuable experience last year. With improved depth, balanced offensive weapons, and emerging defensive leaders, Depew is focused on turning close games into wins and building a more competitive program this fall. The Hornets return a dynamic offensive unit led by junior quarterback Braxdyn Schwart (5-10, 180, So.). Schwart threw for 1,400 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, while also rushing for 214 yards. With a full year of starting experience under his belt, Schwart is expected to take another step forward as a leader and playmaker. Helping carry the offensive load will be two of Depew’s most versatile athletes: Wyatt Osborn (6-0, 172, Jr.) and Jack Johnson (5-10, 182, Sr.). Osborn totaled 36 receptions for 532 yards and six touchdowns, making him a reliable target in the passing game. Johnson was even more dynamic, recording 41 catches for 621 yards and five touchdowns through the air while adding 409 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. His ability to impact the game in multiple ways gives the Hornets a true offensive weapon. Tight ends Richard Peterman (5-10, 210, Jr.) and Jeffery Marker (6-0, 205, Jr.) bring size and versatility to the formation, contributing as both blockers and pass-catchers. With more consistency up front, Depew has the tools to score more effectively in 2025.

Defense
Defensively, the Hornets will look to improve by leaning on several two-way standouts. Johnson, who recorded 72 tackles last season, will again anchor the linebacker corps with his high motor and instincts. Gabe Peeler (5-11, 185, Jr.) brings toughness to the nose guard and linebacker spots, while Perry Burgett (6-1, 185, Jr.) adds versatility across the defensive line, linebacker, and secondary. Osborn will play a key role in the back end, using his speed and awareness to patrol the secondary and help limit big plays. With a group that’s growing in confidence and experience, the Depew defense aims to be more physical and disciplined in 2025, helping the Hornets fight their way back into contention.
