Davenport’s Brody Robinson – Football Spotlight

Davenport High’s Friday night lights shine a little brighter when Brody Robinson steps onto the field. At 5’9 and 185 pounds of determination, Robinson commands the game with a combination of raw athleticism, sharp intelligence and relentless drive. As a linebacker and running back, he’s a leader on both sides of the ball for his eight-man squad. But Brody’s story is about much more than stats and touchdowns.

Robinson is a junior and a three-sport athlete, anchoring the Class B football team, starring on the baseball diamond in the spring and dominating as a powerlifter in the off-season for the Bulldogs. Each role reflects his deep-rooted belief in hard work, a value reinforced by his admiration for former NFL linebacker Luke Kuechly who played for the Carolina Panthers. “He wasn’t just a hitter-he was the smartest player on the field,” Brody says. That’s who I want to be.”

His journey has been shaped by the guidance of head coach Grant Powell, a no-nonsense mentor who expects excellence on and off the field. Under Coach Powell’s leadership, Brody has grown into a team captain who leads by example and constantly seeks improvement. “Coach taught me that being a leader means lifting others up, not just being the loudest voice” Brody explains.

When talking about some of his teammates, he says that junior Tyler Gillickson (WR/DB) is a hard worker who makes him better every day. Robinson also says watch out for Mark Mascho. “You may just see him as a kicker but he has developed into a great wide-receiver.”

As for goals for the coming year, he says, “Our team making the playoffs last year was a great accomplishment and of course our goal is to get back to the playoffs and win a State Championship, he said.  “Naturally we want to get the win against our rival Depew.”  “It means the world to me to see the fans and everybody there supporting the team.”

While his achievements on the field are impressive, Brody knows that success starts in the classroom and is a member of the Aviation Club at school. You can’t win on Friday night if you lose Monday through Thursday. “Focus in the classroom to get your work turned in on time.

As for off the field interests Brody follows former University of Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman on social media. “He’s an outstanding player”. said Robinson.

“It means the world to me to see the fans and everybody there supporting the team.”

As Brody heads into the final stretch of his high school career, one thing is clear. Whether on the field, in the weight room, or in the classroom, he’s writing a legacy defined by discipline, character and heart. That’s the true mark of a champion.
