Cushing’s Bryce Ward – Football Spotlight

For Cushing High School senior Bryce Ward, athletics aren’t just about the scoreboard, they’re about growth, discipline, and representing his community with pride. A three-sport athlete, Ward excels in football, wrestling, and track, balancing the demands of competition with the responsibilities of the classroom. On the football field, he makes his mark as both a wide receiver and safety, bringing energy and determination to every snap.

Ward’s motivation is simple but powerful: to get better every day. That drive has helped him achieve standout moments in his career, including one of his favorite highlights, scoring a game-tying touchdown that sent Cushing into overtime, where they went on to win. It’s those moments, born out of hard work and preparation, that fuel his love for sports.

When asked what it takes to be successful, Ward points to consistency and effort. “Hard work, showing up every day, and putting in extra work,” he says. He applies that same focus in balancing academics with athletics, making sure to stay disciplined with his schoolwork so he can perform at a high level both on the field and in the classroom.

Ward credits much of his mindset to his biggest role model, his father. “He pushes me to be better every day, and he has the best work ethic I’ve ever seen,” Ward shares. He also highlights the impact of one of his favorite teachers, Tammy Ailey, who has guided him through important life decisions and supported him in reaching his goals.

While Ward enjoys the camaraderie of all his teammates, he particularly values working with Roman Tucker, who challenges him daily in practice. And when it comes to competition, there’s nothing more satisfying than a victory over rival Perkins-Tryon.

Representing Cushing High School and the Tiger community is something Ward takes seriously. “It means a lot, and I’m very grateful to represent them,” he says. With his work ethic, gratitude, and determination, Bryce Ward is leaving a lasting legacy at Cushing, one built on effort, resilience, and pride.
