VYPE Athlete Spotlight: Promised Johnson – Bristow High School
 By Olivia Jones

When you watch Promised Johnson take the field on a Friday night, it’s clear—he’s not just playing football, he’s living out a dream that began when he was a kid in the stands. Now a junior at Bristow High School, Promised is stepping into his role as a leader, a playmaker, and a role model for the next generation.

Promised stars on both sides of the ball as a quarterback and defensive back for the Purple Pirates and competes in track. He says his biggest motivation is his family, and his success is rooted in something deeper than talent. “My mom and dad are my biggest role models,” he shared. “They bring out the best in me and make me a better person every day.”

On campus, Coach Avery has had the biggest impact on his journey. “He took me under his wing as a freshman and has played a huge part in my success,” Promised said.

For Promised, success comes from doing the work that no one sees. “It’s the extra reps and training when no one’s watching,” he said. That effort paid off when he scored his first varsity touchdown—a career highlight he’ll never forget.

One of his favorite matchups is against Cushing, a rivalry that’s meant something since his little league days. And when it comes to daily competition, he sharpens his skills going up against TJ Wilson, his long-time friend and training partner. “We’ve been together since grade school. We’re always pushing each other to be better.”

He also gives major respect to Chris Rolland, calling him the most underappreciated player on the team. “He’s our center and came back strong after serious injuries. He’s putting in the work, and he’s going to be a big part of our line.”

Promised is involved in Bristow’s leadership program and follows Adonis Harrison Jr. on social media for inspiration on training and body discipline. His pre-game song is “Popular Loner” by Rod Wave, and he looks up to Lamar Jackson as his favorite NFL player. And if football wasn’t an option? “I’d be wrestling. It’s been a part of my life for a long time.”

With dreams of playing at LSU, Promised is focused, driven, and ready to lead. “Representing Bristow means everything to me. I dreamed of being that player—the one the community looks forward to watching on Friday nights.”
