For Saul Talley, education has never been just a profession, it is a legacy. Coming from a family rooted in teaching and school leadership, Talley grew up understanding the value of education from an early age. Both his mother and grandfather dedicated their lives to schools, shaping not only students but entire communities. That influence helped guide Talley into a career that has now spanned more than two decades.
Talley spent the last 20 years at Stillwater Junior High, building lasting relationships and leaving a meaningful impact on generations of students. Before that, he taught one year in the Perkins-Tryon School District and two years at Stillwater Middle School, steadily developing his craft in the classroom. His experience spans a wide range of subjects, including world geography, world cultures, U.S. history, U.S. government, and Oklahoma history, giving him a broad platform to engage students in understanding the world around them.
As he prepares to transition to the high school level for the 2026-27 school year, Talley brings with him not only experience but a clear passion for helping students think deeper. He thrives on making students curious about the people, places, and events that have shaped history, encouraging them to see beyond dates and facts and instead connect with the human stories behind them.
Talley’s approach is shaped by lessons passed down through his family. He carries with him the belief that behind every negative action is a positive need, a perspective that allows him to connect with students on a more understanding level. He also values the importance of thoughtful decision-making, a principle instilled by his grandfather that continues to guide both his teaching and his life.
Some of Talley’s most influential role models came during his own school years. Teachers like Susan Heavens in elementary school, along with Jay Croft and Brett Stokes in junior high, played key roles in shaping his path. Having the opportunity to later work alongside Croft and Stokes for two decades made that influence even more meaningful.
Outside the classroom, Talley enjoys riding horses, fly fishing, and hunting, finding balance in the outdoors. Among his proudest accomplishments, however, is seeing former students grow into successful adults, parents, and contributing members of their communities, an enduring reminder of the impact a dedicated teacher can have.
