Sarah Eck’s classroom at Stillwater High School is a place where curiosity is encouraged, and real-world understanding is the goal. Teaching students in grades 10 through 12, Eck covers an impressive range of subjects, including Oceanography, Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, and Forensic Science, bringing science to life through relevance and connection. She has spent seven years at Stillwater High School over two different periods, first from 2017 to 2020 and again from 2022 to the present, continuing a teaching journey that has taken her across several states.
Before arriving in Stillwater, Eck taught at South Lake and Lake Minneola High Schools in Florida, as well as Woodmont High School in South Carolina. Her path into education began with a background in agricultural education, where she discovered her passion for helping students become educated consumers, people who can think critically, ask questions, and make informed decisions. That philosophy still drives her work today.
Eck credits two teachers from her own school days for shaping her approach to teaching. Her agricultural education teacher, Mr. Odom, and her English teacher, Mr. Anderson, left lasting impressions by setting high expectations and genuinely caring about their students. Those influences helped define the educator she strives to be.
What Eck enjoys most about teaching is building meaningful relationships with students. She believes learning is strongest when students feel seen and supported, and she takes pride in helping them develop knowledge that extends beyond the classroom. One of the most valuable pieces of advice she’s received along the way is the importance of balance, understanding that to give her best to students, she must also take care of herself.
Outside of school, Eck enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family. She and her husband, Dr. Chris Eck, are raising three children, Kylee, Gavin, and Charlie, who keep life busy and full. That family perspective gives her an added appreciation for the role educators play in students’ lives.
Through her diverse subject offerings, commitment to student growth, and passion for education, Sarah Eck continues to make a meaningful impact at Stillwater High School, helping students better understand the world around them and their place within it.
