Orin Reuter is a junior at Stillwater High School. He plays small forward and shooting guard for the Pioneer basketball team. Just like most other athletes, Orin knows what it takes in order to be his best when he is on the court.
“Success has required dedication, consistent focus, and countless hours of practice,” he said. “It’s all about committing to improvement each day. I am motivated by the drive to win and push my limits.”
Along with all of the work he has put in, Reuter also acknowledges that there have been people in his life who have played a big role in his career.
“I want to give credit to my family, coaches, friends, and especially teammates who have helped shape me into the person/athlete I am today,” he said. “My parents and coaches are my biggest influences. They not only guide me in becoming a better player but also inspire me to grow as a person.”
Throughout his time playing sports, Orin has had a lot of different experiences that have made an impact on him.
“I think the highlight for me was scoring my first varsity points my freshman year,” he said. “It was unforgettable. It boosted my confidence and felt like the first big payoff for my hard work. Also, anytime we win a playoff game is the best because the intensity is unmatched, and it shows who can really handle the pressure.”
When he is out on the court competing, Reuter is proud to be wearing the Pioneer uniform across his chest.
“Representing my school and community means everything to me,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of such an amazing community and do my best to make them proud.”
High school athletes have to ensure that their grades are good in order to compete. Orin says that you have to know your priorities in order to make it work.
“Balancing everything takes a lot of effort,” Reuter stated. “But my parents always remind me that school comes first. I know if my grades drop, they won’t allow me to play.”
In the classroom, Orin has had the opportunity to learn from a number of different teachers. But out of all of them, he has one teacher that has been very influential to him.
“I think my favorite teacher would have to be Ms. Janloo,” he said. “She was my eigth grade technology teacher and she taught me all sorts of life skills I use today. She is now at the high school where I get to see and chat with her every day. I plan to take her newspaper class next year.”
Along with playing basketball, Reuter is a member of The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Stillwater Makes A Change.
