There is a lot of pride when it comes to being a high school athlete. Not just for yourself, but also for the team that you play for and the fans. Maggie Ruby plays golf for Stillwater High School and she says that being able to play golf for her school is something that she is proud to do.
“It means a lot to me to represent my school and community,” Maggie said. “When we won state I was so grateful for all the support we had from the women’s golf associations Stillwater country club who did so much for us and the rest of the community.”
Maggie is a sophomore at Stillwater. Along with golf, she is also involved in Stillwater Makes A Change and the Beta Club.
Success is something that everyone strives for but Ruby knows that it is not something that comes easily.
“To be successful at my sport I have had to put many hours in practicing to better my game,” she said. “The thing that motivates me the most is wanting to win and get better.”
Along with all of her work she has put in, Maggie says it has also been important for her to have some great people in her corner.
“My parents are my biggest role models in life,” she stated. “They have taught me what hard work looks like and have taught me life lessons that have made me a better person. The teacher that has impacted my life the most is Ms. Janloo because she has taught me fundamental skills and is so kind to every student she has.”
On the golf team, Maggie and her teammates work together to help each other improve their game and get better.
“I enjoy working against Amy and Nikki within practice because we are competitive and they push me to be the best I can,” she said. “I think we have a good team dynamic where everyone is appreciated.”
Ruby has made a lot of memories throughout her golf career, but she has one achievement that stands out as her favorite.
“The highlight of my career was winning state with my teammates last year,” she recalled proudly.
