Athletes work hard to continue to improve their skills and be the best player that they can be. Along with all the hard work, it also takes focus. Lauren Philips plays soccer for Stillwater High School and she knows what it takes to be successful.
“It takes a lot of training and patience,” she said. “My biggest motivation to keep working hard is my competitive attitude.”
Philips is a sophomore at Stillwater, where she plays center back for the soccer team. Outside of sports, she is also involved in Stillwater Makes A Change.
Stillwater girls soccer coach, Tanner Rrivera, says that Lauren is an outstanding athlete that makes an impact on the field.
“Lauren started every game as a freshman, playing both at center back and center mid,” Rivera said. “Lauren’s potential is through the roof. She is fast, smart with the ball and physical. I’m excited to see her play this season.”

The teammates that she competes alongside is a group that Lauren is thankful for. She has one teammate that has made an impact on her life.
“My biggest role model would have to be my cousin Karsen,” she said. “I have always looked up to her. She always holds me accountable but we are also always having fun.”
No matter who the opponent is, Lauren is always ready to play against anyone. But she says that she does have one team that she really enjoys beating.
“Enid is the opponent that I like to beat the most,” she said. “When we play them, it usually determines if we make the playoffs or not.”
Wearing the Stillwater uniform is not something that Lauren takes lightly and it is something that she is proud to be able to do.
“It feels good knowing who I’m representing and it pushes me to be the best version of myself,” she stated.
As a student-athlete, Phillips knows that in order to be able to compete on the field, she has to keep her grades up and be successful in the classroom. To do this, she says you must have your priorities in order.
“My school work always comes first,” Lauren said. “It is all about time management.”
