Stillwater’s Kathy Phillips – Mom of the Month – Presented by Stillwater Family Care

By: Hunter Ferguson

Kathy Phillips is the mother of twin Stillwater seniors Zoey and Sydni Phillips. Both girls have been members of the varsity track and field and varsity cross-country teams for four years – this year being their last. Phillips told VYPE that she attends “their meets, cooks the meal they want before a meet, encourages them, and listens to them talk about their activities and lives”. Saying “My kids are interesting and funny, and so are their friends”.

Phillips strongly supports athletics through her work in the track booster club. Explaining that in her view “Athletics are another way for kids to learn about themselves. They get out what they put in, and that is a great lesson to learn at a young age”.

In addition, Phillips expressed “My kids have been academic state champions on both cross country and track. I happened to walk through the hallway where those trophies are displayed and I had no idea just how many of those trophies SHS has earned! It’s a testament to not only those dedicated team members but to the school and faculty as well”.

When she isn’t entrenched in all things athletic Phillips, who attended Gotebo High School – now Mtn. View Gotebo, as they consolidated back in the 1990s, is a nursing instructor at Northern Oklahoma College. And while she “appreciates the emphasis on mothers” she also wanted to make sure we would give credit where credit was due because “ their dad is a major influence as well.”
