Isaiah Smith is a senior at Stillwater High School and is involved in varsity baseball. He got his start from his parents. They, like most parents, got him signed up to participate in a peewee league when he was a young child, and he’s been participating ever since. Isaiah has now been playing for 15 years. His favorite part about baseball is that it’s a team sport and it takes everyone to perform their role in the game to be successful. Isaiah’s favorite sports moment with his team was beating Bixby in their Stillwater Regional last year. The highest moment in his career so far was closing out the game and winning against Choctaw in the state tournament. He was also named to the Oklahoma State Games as a junior last year. This is an achievement for the best freshman to junior players in the state. Isaiah’s biggest positive impact and biggest role model is his brother, Luke Morgan. “He has helped me to achieve my goals and has always pushed me to be better,” Isaiah says.
In his free time, Isaiah likes to go fishing and playing wiffle ball with his friends. His favorite subject in school is math because he is good at it. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Webber, because her classes were always fun, she’s very personable, and has always been kind to him. After high school, Isaiah plans to play baseball in college at NOC Enid and work his way up to a D1 school, heading on to play baseball as a professional.
When things get tough for Isaiah, one thing that keeps him going is the Lord, but also knowing that his bad days may be somebody’s good day. He reminds us that we should always be grateful for our situations because it could be worse. Sports have taught Isaiah about friendship, how to be a teammate, and how to show up every day. To him, being a great athlete means “you need to have a great work ethic, be coachable, and have the grit to play and learn from players and teams that are better than you.” His advice to other athletes is to live in the moment, because there will be one day where it is all over.
