Teachers play a vital role in helping the next generation of citizens prepare for life. Drue Brown made the decision to become an educator and he says that his decision was influenced by some different people in his life.
“Both of my parents were educators and they were strong Christian influences for me,” he said. “I also had some amazing teachers growing up. One teacher that made a big impact on my life was Mrs. Ellard, my fifth grade teacher. I had her for homeroom and social studies and that sparked a big interest in social studies and history for me.”
Brown teaches Geometry and Financial Literacy at Stillwater High School. He is in his third year at the high school. He made a few other stops before landing here.
“This is my tenth year in education and all have been at Stillwater Public Schools,” he said. “I taught five years at the middle school and two years at Will Rogers Elementary.”
While there can be tough days as a teacher, Brown says that there are moments that make it all worth it.
“I enjoy getting to help students who have struggled in areas that they find success in during my class,” he stated. “I want to make what I teach accessible to all students and help encourage small victories in tough areas. My job is to shine a light in dark areas for kids.”
Throughout his teaching career, Brown has been given different pieces of advice from other teachers that have helped him along the way.
“I think my parents have always just given me great advice about keeping my focus on the impact and not necessarily on all the hiccups,” he said. “My identity is in Christ and that is where my value comes from.”
When he is not in the classroom, Drue enjoys spending time with his family and supporting his school.
“I am married to my wife, Natalie,” he said. “We have three kids; Andy, Bella, and Corbi. I love my family and time with them and I’m a big sports fan. I am a Pioneer through and through. I try to take my kids to any Pioneer game or event that we have.”
