There is a lot of pride and honor that goes along with competing for your school. High School athletes know that they are not just playing for themselves when they step out on the field or court. Cameron Lang says that she is proud to be able to compete alongside her teammates at each game and play for their school.
“It is a privilege to wear the Stillwater jersey every Tuesday and Friday night,” she said. “This team is special. We’ve been playing together since we could kick a ball and I think it’s safe to say that this year is bittersweet for all of us. We want to finish strong for our seniors and give them a memorable final season with the original group.”
Lang is a junior at Stillwater High School, where she is center attacking midfield on the soccer team. Away from sports, she is also a member of Stillwater Makes A Change and the Beta Club.
While she enjoys playing for her school, Cameron knows that she is a student first. And in order to be able to compete, she has to excel in the classroom and that requires a sort of balancing act.
“It takes a lot of discipline and hard work to balance school work and extracurricular activities,” she said. “I have found success in my routine and have learned how to manage my time in a way that works for me.”
A lot of hard work and determination goes into being a successful athlete. And over her career, Lang has come to find out that it takes even more than that.
“I have learned that more than anything, it takes a positive attitude and a genuine joy for what you do to be successful in sports,” she said. “My strength and motivation comes from the Holy Spirit. I am strong in my faith and would not be in the position I’m in without the power of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that dwells within me.”
