Q&A with Stillwater’s Dean Shelton – Swim Spotlight – Presented by Larry Gosney State Farm Agent

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?

Dean: I am a sophomore at Stillwater High School and I am on the swimming team.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?

Dean: Swimming has taught me that no good thing comes without hard work, so you should always work your hardest.

VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?

Dean: I am most proud of myself for starting swimming because starting something is the hardest part of it.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Dean: I enjoy going to swim meets and racing other schools.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Dean: Elias Mendez has left the biggest impact on me as a teammate because he always pushed me to do better and work harder.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Dean: My favorite teacher was my ninth-grade English teacher, Mrs Humphries, because she always challenged me academically.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Dean: I look up to Michael Phelps as he completely changed the way people went about their races with his butterfly stroke and underwaters.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Dean: My favorite meal is a cheeseburger with a side of Mac and cheese.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Dean: The best advice anyone has given me came in the form of a quote from my coach, “The enemy of progress is complacency.”
