Perry’s Jaxon Miner- Athlete Spotlight- Presented by First Bank and Trust Company

Perry High School sophomore Jaxon Miner is quickly establishing himself as a key contributor on the varsity football team, taking on the challenges of playing quarterback while staying grounded in what matters most to him.

As a quarterback, Miner knows his role goes beyond throwing passes. It requires leadership, awareness and attention to detail on every play.

“The most difficult thing about it is having to remember everyone’s jobs on the field,” Miner said.

Miner draws inspiration from his father, who has played a major role in shaping his approach to both sports and life.

“My dad, he has always pushed me to be the best I can,” Miner said.

That influence carries into the classroom, where Miner is focused on his studies. He said science is his favorite subject and named Mrs. Kennedy as his favorite teacher.

On the field, Miner has already built lasting memories early in his high school career. One of his favorite moments came during a game against Blackwell.

“I remember we were playing Blackwell, and it was the first play of the game,” Miner said. “I got the ball and threw the ball to Gunnar Farrar for the first touchdown of the game.”

He has also seen impressive performances from teammates, including a standout play against Crooked Oak.

“I gave the ball to Andrew Kukuk, and he bounced off four or five tackles and still ended up scoring,” Miner said.

While those moments stand out, Miner believes the true value of athletics goes beyond wins and statistics.

“What athletics has taught me is that it’s not about how many games you win, how many trophies or medals you win,” he said. “It’s all about the memories and the effort you give everything.”

Team chemistry is another aspect Miner values highly. He said the connection among players makes the experience meaningful.

“I like the bond we all have. It’s like a second family,” he said. “I love how we can all just be ourselves around each other.”

Outside of football, Miner enjoys spending time with friends and family, along with outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting.

Before each game, he follows a simple routine to stay focused.

“I like to sit there in silence,” Miner said. “And before every game, I say a prayer.”

With a strong support system and a team-first mindset, Miner continues to grow as a leader and athlete, building a foundation that extends beyond the football field.
